Customize TC Keymap
Kalandra
I sat in TC today and had a play around with my keymap settings to make it as close to live as I could, and here's what I came up with:
First, open up your options window, then hit the Keymap Button.
You'll find that there are ## tabs, each with sets of controls under them.
Step 1: Keymap Settings
Underneath all the commands is another frame with a dropdown box and some checkboxes. Since TC doesn't have any other standard keymaps, we'll have to leave it as it is, and modify it manually.
The options you want are:
X Mouse Pointer Mode Default
0 Enable modal chat (pressing a key to use chat)
0 Chase Camera Mode
0 Turn Strafes when Mouselook Enabled (EQ Style)
Step 2: Character tab
Looking down this list, you'll see that a lot of the commands are bound to keys, like WASD. First task is to clear those bindings. Select each of them individually and press the Clear Binding button.
The keys you want set up are:
Autorun Toggle : NUMLOCK
Momentary Run/Walk Toggle : SHIFT, SHIFT (you will have to hit rebind twice to bind the left and right shift buttons
Toggle Light : Ctrl+L
Walk Back : DOWN
Walk Forward : UP
Walk Left : LEFT
Walk Right : RIGHT
Walk Toward Cursor : MOUSEBUTTON2 (Doesn't work, can't unbind special fire) If you have a multi-button mouse, use MOUSEBUTTON4
Step 3: Target Tab
The main issues in this tab are the group targeting options
The keys you want set up are:
Target Group Member 1 : Ctrl+2
Target Group Member 2 : Ctrl+3
Target Group Member 3 : Ctrl+4
Target Group Member 4 : Ctrl+5
Target Group Member 5 : Ctrl+6
Target Group Member 6 : Ctrl+7
Target Group Member 7 : Ctrl+8
Target Self : Ctrl+1
Not default, but handy:
Examine Target : Ctrl+X
Step 3: Chat tab
Start Chat Group : Ctrl+G
Start Chat Reply : Ctrl+R
Start Chat Tell : Ctrl+T
These aren't set as Default for live, but I thought I'd bring it up here:
Chat edit Copy : Shift+Ctrl+C
Chat edit Cut : Shift+Ctrl+X
Chat edit Paste : Shift+Ctrl+V
Step 4: UI Tab
Abilities * Commands : Ctrl+A
Character Sheet : Ctrl+C
Community : Ctrl+P
Datapad : Ctrl+D
Holocron : Ctrl+H
Inventory : Ctrl+I
Mail : Ctrl+E
Options : Ctrl+O
Planetary Map : Ctrl+V
Quest Journal : Ctrl+J
Radar Map : Ctrl+M
Toggle Object Names : Ctrl+N
Toolbar Slot 1 : F1
Toolbar Slot 2 : F2
Toolbar Slot 3 : F3
Toolbar Slot 4 : F4
Toolbar Slot 5 : F5
Toolbar Slot 6 : F6
Toolbar Slot 7 : F7
Toolbar Slot 8 : F8
Toolbar Slot 9 : F9
Toolbar Slot 10 : F10
Toolbar Slot 11 : F11
Toolbar Slot 12 : F12
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 1 : Shift+F1
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 2 : Shift+F2
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 3 : Shift+F3
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 4 : Shift+F4
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 5 : Shift+F5
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 6 : Shift+F6
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 7 : Shift+F7
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 8 : Shift+F8
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 9 : Shift+F9
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 10 : Shift+F10
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 11 : Shift+F11
Toolbar Bank 2 Slot 12 : Shift+F12
Step 5: Options
Now close the keymap window, and select the Interface Button.
6 check-boxes down, select X Allow Overhead Map Rotation
Select the Controls Button
Find the Game Mouse Dead Zone, and increase it to about 25%, the green box on your screen will show you how far your mouse will roam before turning your viewpoint
Current issues/bugs:
1-Cannot change the mouse key assignments. I was hoping to be able to change single left click to a doubleclick, and right click to perhaps scroll wheel click, or MOUSEBUTTON4, and then change UI / Walk Toward Cursor to MOUSEBUTTON2
2-The whole idea of queueing up the command by pressing the appropriate toolbar command, AND firing it with the right click is pointless. Why not just keep the old system of firing specials from the toolbar?
3-Toolbar cannot be expanded vertically to show the Bank 2 (as in live)
4-Toolbar cannot be expanded horizontally to split into groups of 4 (as in live)
5-Toolbar does not show updated keymap settings Seems to be fixxed, as of 23:20 GMT
6-Options / Interface / Allow Overhead Map Rotation resets every time you change zones Seems to be fixxed, as of 23:20 GMT
7-You'll notice slight functionality changes with the mouse:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1-Click, instead of DoubleClick performs the default action
2-Right Click will perform the special action, as queued in the toolbar
3-Toolbar doesn't perform action, it queues the action for right-click use
4-Use ~/` key (top left corner, below ESC to bring up the radial menu on target under cursor, rather than click-hold
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
8-Of course, all this could be bypassed by convincing the DEVs to create a standard keymap setting that acts like the Current live keymaps
