Ok, this is just for your amusement. Granted, when I heard the nge rumor, I laughed I disagree off as well. Made it easier for $OE to pick it up and ram the nge up there I guess. I claim NOTHING here, and I have neither confirmed it NOR do I believe it. So I don't want the fanbois or skeptics to go Nyaaah Nyaah.. you were wrong.. because I don't believe it now. The minute I hear it IS true from my credible sources, I'll preach it as gospel.. but now I just throw it out there as fodder, since it has been so quiet.
And I also want to say WHY I don't believe it... because it is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. It plays into everything us despirate expatriates WANT to believe. Read and see if you feel the same way.
But here goes...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Supposingly.. this new company LA just partnered up with to make the new MMORPG.. was yes, SWG2. Not gonna be CALLED SWG2... it will be titled based on what the TV series is titled... why?
While they say it isn't 100% confirmed what timeframe it will be set, they are sure it will be set in the identical time that the TV series is set... which right now is supposingly post Ep3. The only reason they won't commit, is SUPPOSINGLY the statements that the TV series is set post Ep-3 and on Tattooine is now rumored to be a misdirection. Now I haven't heard anything credible to THAT fact, and as a matter of fact, everything I have read recently backs the Ep3.5 setting. So that is why there is a question there.
It is supposed to be DONE by the time the new TV series launches. Synergy people, Synergy. PC, PS3 AND Xbox2. The consoles will need keyboards to talk beyond simple words, unless people use the ingame functionality of microphone communication.
What does that have to do with SWG?
Weeeeeeeellllllll here's where it falls back on the rumor I heard before. This company is supposed to use the classic SWG format of a skill based system... partnered with a mess of CU/nge thinking of quest oriented levelling and unfortunately CL based combat. How will they get the alpha test?
You guessed it... from SWG.
They're supposed to take over SWG.. roll back to pre-cu AND have the team impliment the best elements from CU AND nge (not the lowsy FPS stuff.. the quests)... in a NON-BUGGY way. COMPLETE WITH PLAYER FEEDBACK.
Yup.. here's the plan was told... step by step.
1. LA announces break with $OE. $OE claims game was "sold" to new company.. everyone saves face.
2. New company(although they don't state it is Bioware, it implies it) will take over SWG. Reverts back to pre-CU...and hires up brightest from SWG team to help transition. They say Bioware opened up in Austin to make it easier.
3. Development team now focused into two teams..
One deals with the mechanics of improving SWG1 from the pre-cu base. Including streamlining/eliminating a few professions and adding a couple. Nothing as drastic as nge, but expect a reshuffling. Adding the content of the 3 expansions and the nge, and working on a real combat upgrade. The HAM bars will die. Levels MAY exist, but not like the CU and the horrible damage mitigation/xp insanity.. they plan to see how eliminating targeting the mind pool will help balance combat first. They'll be in charge of the day to day operation of SWG... but the groundwork they create will be 90% of the mechanics of the new game. The other 10% will deal with the platform functionality. There will be little new content nor will there be expansions until after the new game is launched.
The second team deals with the new layout of the galaxy. How the different timeframe changes things. The factions will be Empire and whatever they call the resistance to the empire.. might not be Rebels, depends on what the series calls them. The planetary systems will be expanded. Things from the series will be included, and will be EXPECTED TO EVOLVE AS THE SERIES DOES... but that's getting ahead of myself. The second team will also deal with setting the whole thing to a more Ep3 feel, including ships and locations. ALDERAAN WILL BE ADDED, as will other planets relevant to the series. They will also add all the other content to bring it in line with the TV show and Ep3... as well as a COMPLETE GRAPHICAL IMPROVEMENT. Think better graphics with content to rival WoW.
4. Everyone rejoices.. returns to SWG and the world is right again.
Now they go on to say that in the new game will also blow SWG away. It will make SW fanbois drool, and be good enough to make us all want to play the new game, as WELL as our first love SWG. NEW functionality to the "sequel" that will NOT be given to SWG is... (well, our wish list really)
1. GCW will make a significant difference to gameplay. They even say events ingame MAY effect the TV show and characters ingame MAY become extras in the series, but I think that's just the crack talking. I know TV production, and that's Bats#!t crazy.
2. Hutt/Crime/Underworld faction
3. All the freedom we love with all the content we crave
4. CAPITAL SHIPS - Now they don't say whether we control them, but I'm thinking instances like we saw in the fanfest video.. a board and rescue/destroy thing. Maybe you take it over and you get faction or something... Pirate types would get cash for the cargo.. whatever.
5. Jedi are possible but are hunted and MUST remain secret. NOT an alpha class. They also say that Jedi will be a starter class, but they will give up the ability to have an alt if they do. Yes, there will be alts.
6. Crafting WILL be important. THEY will build the best stuff, but will also be able to improve your looted stuff.. and repair your beaten stuff. (outside of special epic drops.. but those need repair love too). Some weapons also require ammo and such.
7. CH and Droid Handler profession. Battle droids.. droidekas... ETC. Personal droids will be similar to what we have now.
8. Improved PVP. Battlegrounds, a rewards system based on PVP will give rank. PVE people can still get rank as well, but think rank based on Ground forces for PVP and Naval forces for PVE. Space PVP will also effect rank.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So there's what I was e-mailed. It sounds WAY too freaky for me to believe, and quite frankly, is every SWG fan's wet dream. To me that's like they saying I just it the lottery, and they cured all disease. Thus it is why I don't believe it at all.
Interesting fiction though, don't ya think?
EDITED: I was getting rid of typos and stuff, but decided screw it. Excuse any errors both grammitical and spellingwise.

Im not going into any details as I dont want any hints to my sources but here goes....
LA pulled the license from SOE. The rumors about February were dead right. SOE was allowed time to transition players (how much is unknown) to their other station pass games. Thats why they stopped selling SWG prepaid cards.
Publish 28, if it gets done will be the last publish to the game. There is a minimal support staff now working on it. Its purely cosmetic changes to keep existing players subscribing
Bioware did indeed gain rights to develop a second version of SWG. It wont be called SWG2. Its not a completely new game but rather a reworking of existing code. Bioware is currently hiring a large team to work on the game and prefer experience with SWG. Pre-cu is a plus
The focus groups information was handed basically directly to Bioware. Some of the questions, like a KOTOR experience were hints to you folks as to who was behind it.
My source or sources only stated what they know. They didnt speculate on how long development would take. No clue on the rumors if its tied into a television show. No clues on pre-cu, cu, etc. And finally, no clue on an announcement or what SOE will say about this.
I trust this source's info 100%. Believe what you will but it looks like SOE's tyranny is over

BioWare Austin has already begun work on a Massively Multiplayer Online roleplaying game (MMORPG) title; the new game will mark BioWare's debut in the Massively Multiplayer Online space. BioWare has recruited some of the top talent in MMO and RPG development, both to manage the development efforts at BioWare Austin and to collaborate with the experienced team at BioWare Edmonton, to develop a game that combines the best of BioWare's great past games with a compelling persistent online experience. "With our extensive heritage in the roleplaying genre, BioWare Austin is extremely well positioned to innovate in the massively multiplayer online space for BioWare's valued community of fans."
The new BioWare Austin comes soon after the formation of BioWare/Pandemic Studios, a partnership facilitated by private equity firm Elevation Partners.
